A VC in the r/SaaS comments delivers an unsolicited masterclass: retention before growth, a funnel on publish-edit-export, a founder tier to see who reaches for a credit card, and a scope freeze until the data speaks.

Day two after launch: 39 registered users, still zero sales ▸ 0:49, and the launch post has grown to 109 upvotes, 17,000 views and, most intriguingly, 54 shares ▸ 20:26. Into this arrives a stranger: a VC running an open pitch-feedback thread on r/SaaS ▸ 1:22. Juan pitches Divo, asks for the critical next steps, and receives what he rightly calls a clase magistral:

Signups measure curiosity; payment measures the thing investors and founders actually need to know. And the 30% retention gate ▸ 7:40 puts a number where “is it good enough yet?” used to be, while the scope freeze ▸ 9:26 forbids the builder’s favorite escape from measurement: building more.

Just as instructive is what Juan does with it: pastes the jargon into GPT until every term yields (Mixpanel, funnels, cohorts), resolves to instrument Divo, and assigns himself homework, reading everything the man has written elsewhere ▸ 12:17. Free masterclasses are lying around in comment sections; the skill is recognizing one mid-scroll and treating it like tuition…
