The first user arrived while we filmed
Koby's launch day, live: ten signups and zero uploads until the hidden-file culprit gets diagnosed on camera, and then user 'airedaily' appears mid-recording, uploads her highlights, and teaches the founders two uses they never designed.

Three hours after posting Koby to r/kobo: ~15 upvotes, ~10 registrations, and zero uploaded highlight files ▸ 11:14. The funnel’s leak gets diagnosed live: the required .kobo file is hidden by the operating system, and most people never enabled hidden files, “estoy casi que 80% seguro que eso es lo que está pasando” ▸ 19:10. The builder’s own path was intuitive to him alone, the Divo lesson, again, at the file-system level.
Then, mid-recording, the counter ticks: someone registered ▸ 20:00. Username airedaily, and she made it through, profile, description, two finished books, highlights live. What follows is the purest product research in the diary: reading a stranger’s usage in real time. She highlights single words, vocabulary she wants to keep, though Kobo has a dictionary feature for that. She highlights titles of other books mentioned in the text, an improvised to-read list ▸ 23:54. Neither use was designed. Both are legitimate, and Julia’s own habits confirm the second one.
la herramienta buena no te dicta el uso; te lo descubre →
The principle gets named on the spot: good tools aren’t built saying “usted tiene que utilizar esta lógica”, they’re built general, “para que cada uno descubra su forma de utilizarlo” ▸ 24:23. The highlight color was always just a pen; users bring the grammar.
And the day’s emotional ledger, after months of counting registrations against bars: “con un solo usuario yo ya puedo dormir feliz hoy” ▸ 28:55. One stranger, reading on the other side of the world, whose sentences now sit in the feed. For a product about shared knowledge, that’s not a metric. That’s the product working…
