A résumé is a sales page

Carlos, the socio, sent over his résumé for review (with one condition, preserved in seed 62-1). The teardown that follows is a compact course in document-as-sales-page, three fixes deep.

First person. The education section described courses from the catalog’s point of view, “in this course one learns X”. The fix: “yo aprendí a hacer esto” ▸ 11:00. A résumé narrated in third person reads like a syllabus; the hiring manager is buying you, not the curriculum.

Metrics. “Los empleadores buscan métricas” ▸ 11:19. Not “resolví bugs” but what the bug cost, how long the fix took, what it saved. Juan supplies one from his own history: a client-research task that took an hour by hand became a ten-minute script ▸ 11:56. Numbers that are plausible, he stresses, not “en el borde de lo imposible”, inflated metrics read as fiction and honest ones read as evidence.

Ruthless length. Carlos lists over 30 courses across three pages. The reviewers themselves gave up reading, which is the finding: “un reclutador no tiene el tiempo, va a leer los tres primeros y ya” ▸ 12:53. The fix: one page, max two ▸ 13:11, bundle the courses into a few themed bullets, lead with what sells, and let LinkedIn hold the archive. Plus the plumbing that was simply missing: GitHub link, phone number.
