Choosing a job like a founder

The job-hunt criteria, stated before the applications go out: a startup that already raised capital, small enough that ideas count, ideally with equity, and a brother's cofounder-marketplace story marking where the line goes.

// trace: where this idea came from

With Divo nearly shipped and the runway at zero, the job search begins, and before touching a listing, Juan writes his filter out loud. Not any job: a startup, “pero una startup así seria, que haya conseguido capital… en la que la idea me llame” ▸ 20:36. Small enough that “las ideas de uno” actually count, because in a big company “uno es un número más” ▸ 21:22. Ideally with equity, for “pertenencia” ▸ 21:38. The job’s real function, keeping the founder flame lit while it pays the bills, even at a salary discount against a comfortable corporate role.

The “already raised capital” clause has a story behind it. His brother spent about six months as the technical half of a partnership found on a cofounder-matching site ▸ 22:32: no capital, no clear product, asymmetric hours (the other guy full-time, his brother nights and weekends), until one day the other guy simply cut him loose, “lo sacó así como de la nada” ▸ 24:07. He learned plenty and kept nothing, not even the friendship, which is the detail Juan dwells on: real partnerships, like LuarAI’s with Carlos, survive the venture ending.

el capital levantado es el compromiso hecho verificable →

Hence the hard line: “ahorita necesito más plata, entonces no puedo meterme a una startup que no tenga capital” ▸ 24:49. Raised capital isn’t prestige, it’s proof of commitment: someone external verified the idea, and the founders can pay for your time instead of spending your hope.

Broke, and still filtering. The criteria are doing what the transport budget did in entry 58-2: refusing to let scarcity make the decisions…
