Ojalá is not a plan
In Brazil the word is nearly liturgical; in Colombia it's filler, ojalá no llueva, ojalá me vuelva millonario. The teaching is to strike it from your vocabulary wherever you actually hold control, because a wish stated is not a move made, and God does miracles, not magic.

Julia opens with the linguistics. “Oxalá” exists in Brazil but lives in religion and carnival; hearing it in casual speech is rare, while in Colombia it’s everywhere, “ojalá no llueva, ojalá, ojalá” ▸ 21:56. Her objection is that stopping at the word is the problem: a friend breaks a leg and “ojalá se recupere” does nothing, you have to actually go help ▸ 22:28.
He sharpens it into a rule: remove the word from your vocabulary for the cases where you hold control ▸ 22:52. “Ojalá me vuelva millonario” is the null move; no bucket of gold ingots is falling on anyone ▸ 23:05. Julia lands the parable: the man who prays daily to win the lottery until God finally answers, at least buy the ticket, “yo hago milagros, no magia” ▸ 27:39. And he immediately caps the parable’s loophole: he knows relatives who have bought the baloto weekly for a lifetime, waiting ▸ 24:02. The ticket beats the prayer, and neither is a plan.
tacha “ojalá” en todo lo que sí controlas; lo que quede es lo que de verdad es azar →
The positive form comes from The Bear, the phrase he can’t stop quoting: create opportunity ▸ 24:29. Chance keeps its seat at the table, his beloved Lady Luck line, fortune favors those who try ▸ 25:23, but your job is raising the surface area: be prepared for when the opportunity arrives, because a top idea with no deck, no metrics, and no clarity has nothing to say when the investor asks what you’ve achieved ▸ 25:56. The everyday version is his dating example: wanting a serious relationship while never leaving the house, or only trawling discos where nobody is looking for one, isn’t bad luck, it’s not giving the opportunity anywhere to surface ▸ 26:57. Ojalá is what you say about the weather. Everything else gets a plan…
