The pizza-dough models

Google Labs ships Mixboard, a node canvas over Nano Banana that makes Photoshop cry, and the analysis names the pattern: foundational models are raw material, 'una masa de pizza', and Google's strategy is arriving late to every party and razing it.

// trace: where this idea came from

From the group chat: Mixboard, Google Labs’ new toy, a clean node canvas where you moodboard with Nano Banana, US-only for now ▸ 15:22. The demo that breaks them: pick flowered-jean patterns, drop in a photo of your jeans, “ponga esos tres patrones en mi jean”, then “muéstreme vistiéndolos”, done in under a minute ▸ 18:12. His obituary is gleeful: “a la mierda Photoshop. No pierdan tiempo con Photoshop, muchachos.”

The analysis is worth more than the demo. Foundational models, he explains, aren’t products; they’re raw material, and Julia lands the analogy of the day: “es como una masa de pizza: tú puedes poner todos los sabores encima, pero la masa se mantiene” ▸ 21:00. Mixboard is just one topping on Nano Banana; his own next-topping idea comes free, the same canvas for audio, drag a beat node into a guitar node and remix ▸ 21:44, “Fruity Loops, también les voy a pegar duro”.

el modelo es la masa; el que hornea productos encima se queda el mercado →

And the strategic read on Google closes it: they arrive late to every party and raze it, “siempre ha llegado tarde a la fiesta, pero cuando llega arrasa con todo” ▸ 23:22, Bard limping behind ChatGPT until Gemini didn’t, Sora un-challenged for a year until Veo 3 “arrasó con internet”, the reaper meme walking door to door ▸ 24:03. Julia names why lateness works: let the eager ones fall in every hole first, then hire the survivors at double salary ▸ 24:21. For two founders building on exactly these models, the doctrine writes itself: don’t compete with the dough, and don’t assume the audio party won’t get its own late guest…
