Eleven giraffes

A Reddit logo nobody can read as a giraffe becomes a Nano Banana exercise: eleven constrained redesigns whose real product isn't a replacement logo but a diagnosis, variant 10 reveals the neck, variant 11 reveals the ears, and the human learns the minimal fix.

// trace: where this idea came from

On r/logos, a designer asks which giraffe looks better, and the comments see paper planes ▸ 5:32. So he runs an experiment: hand the logo to Nano Banana with a deliberately tight leash, make it read as a giraffe while keeping the concept, no new colors, minimal changes ▸ 6:50. Eleven variants come back, most of them worse, one resembling “ocho animales, como un okapi”.

The lesson is in how he reads the output. His pick, number three, isn’t chosen as a replacement; it’s chosen because “da una idea de cómo poder mejorar este” ▸ 9:05: variant 10 taught him that the ambiguous shape was a neck; variant 11 revealed the original’s horns fail because they’re square, not round ▸ 8:31. The generator’s role is stated as doctrine: “la idea es para aproximarse, no para que le haga a uno todo el trabajo” ▸ 8:11. Eleven bad giraffes are a differential diagnosis; the human takes the findings, elongate the face, curve the neck, round the horns, and makes three surgical edits to the original.

las once variantes no reemplazan el logo; le hacen la radiografía →

The counterexample scrolls past minutes later: a veteran logo designer (111k karma of clean marks, the children’s-dentist dinosaur, the dog-tooth grin) documenting someone who cloned his entire portfolio piece by piece, “se sintió como un déjà vu” ▸ 10:11. The line he draws is the same one from the thumbnail prompt: “una cosa es utilizar uno de referencia, pero ya copiar todo lo que tú hiciste” ▸ 11:02. The tool is the same in both hands; what differs is whether the output is your diagnosis or someone else’s corpse…
